The Magnolia That Bloomed Unseen
This is a beautiful book. But, it's a Love Story, not a Romance. (warning, for the Romance purists out there...)
This book is beautifully written about the love story between two people "of a certain age" (she's 48 and he's 50) during the civil right's era. They meet when John (who is white) is sitting with some black students at a lunch counter in Mississippi. (swoon!)
I loved this book.
I've also categorized it as A Basket Full of Kittens. There is violence. There is death. But it's set in the civil rights era and John is a civil rights worker, so it makes sense and it's more hinted at than anything.
If you're ok with no HEA, I highly recommend this book.
